1978 Gibson Ripper Bass. Kalamazoo Plant,USA August 16th, 1978,Production Number: 30. The Ripper was designed by Bill Lawrence who was working for Gibson at the time. With exception of the missing palm rest this bass is all original including the case.

Natural finish over Maple. Contoured body edges vaguely echoes the SG, its offset horns were clearly reminiscent of other popular makes. It has a set neck. The strings go through the body allowing for greater sustain and this bass definitely has that, along with a superb tone which can be heard in the sound file. Serial:72288030 . Weight: 10.1 lbs.

The body has a few small nicks in the finish just to the left of the bridge and on the back a little buckle rash. There are two small patches of wear on the edges either side of the headstock perhaps from being hung in a wall hanger? There is also discolouration on the back of the neck in two places and at the butt end of the bass. I have seen this before and I believe its a reaction to the rubber used on certain guitar stands. The marks are in the places where the neck would be held and the body placed onto a stand. The frets are in good shape having been cleaned and polished by my tech.

Neck dimensions: Width: 1 & 5/8" at the nut , 2 & 1/8" at the 12th. Depth: 7/8ths at the nut and 1" at the 12th. This bass has been fully set up by my technician Chris Ward. Come and try it out at my showroom in Shoreditch London.
