1977 Gibson G3 Bass, Natural

1977 Gibson G3 in very good condition, Natural finish over an Alder body. The pickguard and screws look a little too new to be original. Otherwise all original including the hard case. Serial: 72857115. Weight: 10 lbs 2.5 oz. The finish has a few small patches of wear and a couple of small nicks/dings. There is a small crack in the pickguard just below the output socket but it's stable. There is a dark mark on the back of the neck about 2cm long which appears to be a marking in the wood grain as it's underneath the finish. The frets are in good condition having been cleaned and dressed by my tech. Nut Width: 40.5mm. Depth: 21.6 mm. This bass has been fully set up with a fresh set of strings. It has a lovely smooth action and great tonal options.

It has an arrow-shaped headstock inspired by the flying V. Contoured body edge vaguely echoes the SG, its offset horns were clearly reminiscent of other popular makes, as was its bolt-on neck (4 bolt). The strings go through the body allowing for greater sustain and this bass definitely has that, along with a superb tone.

The G3 features three single-coil pickups wired in a humbucking configuration. The pickups were designed by Bill Lawrence. The pickup selector works as follows: Forward position activates the front and middle pickups in a humbucking configuration. The back position activates the middle and back pickup in the same manner. The middle position activates all three pickups for what Gibson coined a "buck-and-a-half".
