Ampeg B-15 Portaflex - Amp Town Funk
As a vintage bass specialist, Andy's showroom is host to some of the most incredible and highly collectable basses ever made, including Pre-Ernie Ball Music Man basses, Pre-CBS Fenders and 60s Hofners.
It's safe to say that Andy knows a thing or two about vintage basses, but if there's one thing that Andy truly specialises in; it’s vintage Ampeg Portaflex tube bass amps, he stocks many in his London Showroom - more than anyone in Europe!
When Ampeg introduced the B-15 Portaflex in 1960, it set the standard for all future bass amplification, quickly becoming the most popular bass amp in the world.
Brief History of the Ampeg B-15
The B-15 underwent constant change through the 60s, as such; the B-15 was replaced by the B-15N in 1961. In 1962, Ampeg updated the B-15N with a solid-state rectifier called the B-15NB and introduced their famous blue check vinyl covering to their entire amp line. Ampeg went back to a tube rectifier and changed to a printed circuit board in 1964 (B-15NC). This model lasted until mid 1965, when they introduced the B-15NF with fixed bias tubes and a single-baffle cabinet. The blue checked Tolex remained a feature until mid 67, at this point black Tolex was introduced with a silver trim around the front edge of the cab.
The Ampeg B-15 Amplifiers are serious collector's items as well as great gigging amps with true vintage Motown tones.
