1968 Fender Precision Bass, Sunburst

This is a very late 1967 / early '68 Fender Precision Bass in excellent condition with a sunburst finish over an Alder body. It retains a nitro lacquer finish throughout - body, neck and headstock. It has a beautiful pickguard with wide and deep swirls in the pattern.

Apart from the nut, this bass is all original and complete including unbroken solder on the pots and pickups. The case has the 1966 logo on it but that doesn't mean it couldn't have left the shop back in 68 with this case. Without a time machine, I can't say for certain one way or the other. It has a C-profile maple neck, a beautiful dark rosewood fingerboard, a 7.25" radius, and pearl dots. Serial:217120. Weight 8lbs 11.5oz / 3.95 kg.

The Sunburst finish is still vibrant. There are a few very minor scuffs and tiny dings on the body as well as a larger patch of wear on the back of the upper horn. Otherwise, it's very clean. The neck has a lovely grain with very little wear The frets are clean and in great shape with plenty of life left in them. The headstock has a few very tiny scuffs/dings around the top edge and some light lacquer checking but it is mostly free from wear. It's an all-around excellent bass, a joy to play and sounds incredible.

This bass has been fully set up in our workshop and is strung with a fresh set of Ernie Ball flat-wound strings. The pickups have black bobbins and original winds. The neck is date stamped Jan 68 B. Only the tone pot date is visible - 31st week of '66. The volume pot date is covered in solder.  Nut width: 41.5 mm, depth at 1st fret 21.5 mm. Pickup DC resistance 10.41 K
