Late 1973 Rickenbacker 4001, Jetglo finish in good condition. It comes in a slightly later period Rickenbacker case, but otherwise all original. Supplied with a 3-month warranty and a 14-day returns policy. Serial MI 4082. (Sept 1973) Weight 9lbs 6oz / 4.26kg. Nut width 42.3 mm. Depth at 1st fret 22.6 mm.
1973 was a transition year for the 4001 bass. First to go were the "crushed" inlays, which changed to plain pearl inlays. They remained full-width until around the middle of year when they were changed for inlays that were 1/8" from each edge. Gone too were the gap-tooth bridge, toaster neck and horseshoe bridge pickups and also the checkerboard binding. The closed-back Grover tuners remained but they were no longer wavy. These changes happened gradually throughout the year.
The neck is clean and straight but does have a few areas where the black finish has been touched up( See pictures). The frets are in great shape having been cleaned and dressed in our workshop. The headstock has a few small scuffs around the edges. There are a few dings, mainly around the edges of the body. On the front and back of the body there are some light scuffs. This bass is great fun to play and has that killer Rick tone.
All hardware and electronics are in fine working order. The pots all date to the 30th week of '73. The truss rods are fully functioning and the action has been set nice and low in our workshop with a set of round-wound strings.
