1966 Fender Bass V, Surf Green Refinish

Early 1966 Fender Bass V, Surf Green Refinish in good condition. It has the original tortoise-shell pickguard and a rosewood fingerboard. It's missing the metal bridge cover and the finger rest is wooden, therefore not original. The bridge saddles are very shiny compared to the rest of the hardware so I can only assume they are reissue. It comes with a modern Fender gig bag.

The Fender Bass V, made from 1965 to ’70, was the fourth bass marketed by Fender. This five-string bass’ extra string was tuned higher rather than lower – C above the standard bass’ G. With only 15 frets, the fretboard appears a little odd. The idea behind the high C string on a bass was that a player could reach higher, guitar-like notes by playing the C string instead of fretting up the neck.

It has a great playing straight neck and the frets are in good condition with only minimal wear. The body has a few chips and scuffs in the finish, mainly around the edges of the body. All electronics work and sound great.

This bass has been fully set up by in our workshop and is strung with D'addario flat-wound strings E-G (the high C is another brand) The pot's date to the 5th week of 66 and the neck is stamped Jan 66. It has the original pickups with no visible dates.  Serial:600136. Weight 9lbs 15oz. Nut width: 43.5mm. Depth at 1st fret: 20.2mm.
