1964 Fender Jazz Bass with a Fiesta Red finish in good condition. This bass is all original aside from the 2 screws holding down the metal pickup cover and a recent refret. The bass came to us with barely any frets left. We had the work done by Lavarack Guitars in Leeds. The correct style narrow frets have been used. The bass is supplied in its original case.
This is a one-owner bass that was purchased in South Africa in the '60s. It lived most of its life there until a move to the UK. The sons of the original owner told me that their father loved this bass very much and played it extensively, both at home and at many many gigs, as is evident from the wear to the finish.
The body finish has wear throughout including scuffs, dings and general patches of wear as well as some buckle rash on the back. The back of the neck has playwear through the top coat leaving it very smooth in the hand. The headstock has small dings and scuffs, mainly along the edge. The mint green guard has only minimal shrinkage and no cracks. It has a rosewood veneer fretboard with "clay" dots. Everything remains structurally sound with no breaks or repairs. All hardware and electronics are in good working order but have plenty of wear. The truss rod works correctly, and the neck is straight.
Fully set in our workshop with great action and a fresh set of D'Addario Chrome flat-wound strings. The action is set med/low - currently set at just over 2mm at the 12th on the bass side. It's a great player with a superb, even sound right across the fretboard. Serial number: L33558. Weight: 8 lbs 12.5 oz / 3.98 kg. Nut width: 38.5 mm. Depth at 1st fret: 20.5 mm. The neck is stamped Feb 64A. The pickups have untouched solder and original winds. Pickup DC resistance: N, 7.19k / B, 7.68k. The solder is untouched on all 3 pots and they all date to the 22nd week of 64.
