1980 Music Man Sabre bass in exceptionally good / near-mint condition. This bass has a rare, optioned satin clear finish and a fretless ebony board. Music Man offered "satin natural" as an option in their 1980 catalogue. It has a black pickguard, a 2-band EQ, 2 humbucking pickups, an internal micro-powered pre-amp with brightness + phase in/out and pickup selector switches. All original and complete including the case.
As already mentioned, this bass is in exceptionally good / near-mint condition and it's hard to find any signs of player to the finish. The only thing evident is some lacquer checking and some extremely small scuffs around the tip of the headstock. The mute sponge shows evidence of age but the metalwork is all clean and shiny. The board is extremely clean with little sign of wear. The truss rod is fully operational with plenty of room to move. The neck is straight and plays smoothly.
This bass has been fully checked over and set up in our workshop with a fresh set of Ernie Ball roundwound strings. The neck date is May 12th 1980. The body date is Oct 1st 1979. The pots all date to mid-79. Serial number: C005728. Weight: 10 lbs 3.5 oz / 4.64 kg. Nut width: 43 mm. Depth at 1st fret: 20.5 mm.
