Early 1963 Epiphone Casino E230TDV, Royal Tan finish in exceptionally good condition. All original guitar with a period correct Gibson case. It has the wide nut, two P-90 pickups with black covers and nickel hardware. The pots are dated late '62. Serial: 97932. Weight: 6 lbs 7.5 oz / 2.94 kg. Nut width: 42.2 mm. Depth at 1st fret: 20 mm.
The finish is stunning and displays very little fade. There's some extremely minor wear to the finish on the back and a few small dings in the headstock but nothing major. It also displays light lacquer checking throughout. The original frets are nice and tall with plenty of life left in them and very little wear. All hardware & electronics are in excellent working order. The binding is all intact. There are no breaks or repairs and everything remains structurally sound.
This guitar has been fully checked over & set up in our workshop with a fresh set of D'Addario 10s and is an all-round excellent sounding and playing guitar. Set up with a low action allowing for very smooth movement around the fretboard. It has a big rich tone both plugged in and acoustically.
The Casino E230TD was introduced by Gibson in 1961 and is the equivalent of the ES-330. It has the same pick-up configuration and hollow body construction. The main differences being the white pickguard, and headstock design.
In 1964 Paul McCartney went shopping for a new guitar that could give him the overdriven blues sound of artists like Otis Rush, he reached for a Casino. John Lennon and George Harrison soon bought their own and used their Casinos on stage and at Abbey Road throughout the band’s career. Keith Richards, Carl Wilson, Paul Weller and Noel Gallagher are just a few of the players who made great records with Casinos.
