1976 Gibson Ripper Bass, ebony finish in good condition. Serial number #00157990. Other than a new nut it's all original and complete including the case. The case has seen better days but the latches all work correctly and the handle is still intact.
The body has moderate play-wear including scuffs and small sings. The back of the neck has a similar level of play-wear. The headstock has a few small nicks and dings around the edges. The neck is straight and the truss rod works as it should. The frets have been dressed and cleaned up in our workshop.Fully set up with a low action and great playability. The pot codes date to the 10th week of 1976. It has a slim neck with a nut width of 40.8 mm. Depth at the 1st fret: 21.2 mm. Weight: 10 lbs 10 oz.
The Ripper was designed by Bill Lawrence who was working for Gibson at the time. The contoured body edges vaguely echo the SG, its offset horns were clearly reminiscent of other popular makes. It has a set neck and through-body stringing allowing for greater sustain and this bass definitely has that, along with a superb tone.
