1975 Gibson Ripper Bass, Ebony

1975 Gibson Ripper Bass, ebony finish in very good condition. All original and complete including the case. We have dated the bass from the pot dates rather than the serial as Gibson serial numbers are extremely inconsistent.

The body has moderate playwear including a few scuffs, small dings and some buckle rash on the back. The back of the neck and headstock are clean with very little wear. The neck is straight and the truss rod works as it should. The frets have been dressed and cleaned up in our workshop.

Fully set up with low action and great playability. Two of the pots date to the 52nd week of 1974 and the other to the 42nd week of '75. Nut width of 41.8 mm. Depth at the 1st fret: 21.6 mm. Weight: 8 lbs 12.5 oz / 3.98 kg

The Ripper was designed by Bill Lawrence who was working for Gibson at the time. The contoured body edges vaguely echo the SG, and its offset horns were reminiscent of other popular makes. It has a set neck and through-body stringing allowing for greater sustain and this bass has that, along with a superb tone.

Condition Very good 7.75/10
Case OHSC
Weight 8 lbs 12.5 oz / 3.98 kg
Serial Number 966958
