Late 1961 Fender Jazz Bass, See-thru Blonde finish. This is one of the earliest 3-knob configuration Jazz basses. It is supplied with a brand new Fender moulded hard case. It comes with the original mute kit and leather strap. It has a beautiful tortoiseshell guard and a slab rosewood fretboard with "clay" dots. It's a great player with a superb even sound right across the fretboard. Serial number: 58252. Weight: 8 lbs 6.5 oz / 3.82 kg. Nut width: 37.8 mm. Depth at 1st fret: 21 mm. Pickup DC resistance: N 7.29k / B 7.48k.
As you can see there is extensive wear to the finish, particularly on the back of the body and around the edges. Under blacklight (see pictures) it is evident that someone has tried to paint or spray over these patches of wear. We were able to remove some of this touch-up re-exposing the wear through the original finish but some of it remains. The back of the neck and headstock also have wear and tear including scuffs & dings. The frets have been cleaned and dressed in our workshop. All hardware and electronics are in good working order. The metal pickup and bridge covers are a little rusty. The truss rod works correctly.
Aside from the above-mentioned areas of finish touch-up and a new tone knob, this bass is all original with untouched solder. It's been fully set in our workshop with great action and a set of D'Addario Chrome flat-wound strings. The pencil dates on both the body and neck are 8/61. Both pickups have black bobbins and original winds. The pots date to the 20th week of '61.
