1978 Music Man Stingray, Walnut

  • Sale
  • Regular price £3,795.00

1978 Musicman Stingray in excellent condition. Walnut finish, black pickguard, maple neck & fretboard. It is equipped with a 2-band EQ, epoxy-coated preamp and through-body stringing. Aside from the new mute sponge and a new nut, it's all original including the tweed Music Man case.  It comes with a 3-month warranty and a 14-day returns policy.

There are the usual small scuffs/dings in the body finish, mainly around the edges. There is also a larger patch of wear along the bottom edge. This seems to be some kind of reaction in the finish, perhaps from a strap left on the bass whilst sat in its case. The truth is we don't know what has caused the finish to wear in this way.  The back of the neck is generally clean with just a few small dings behind the first 3 frets. The fretboard is extremely clean with very little wear. The neck is straight and plays smoothly and the truss rod works as intended with plenty of room to move. The frets show only minor signs of wear and are overall pretty clean and tidy. There are a few very minor scuffs around the edges of the headstock but nothing major. Everything remains structurally sound with no breaks or repairs.

This is an all-round excellent bass, the sound is warm and punchy. It's been fully set up in our workshop with a fresh set of Ernie Ball round-wound strings and has great action allowing for superb playability up and down the neck.

The serial number is B007579. Weight: 10 lbs 3 oz / 4.62 kg. The body and neck stamps are very difficult to read as they're both smudged. They appear to both be stamped, Feb 1978. All 3 pots date to mid-late 1977.  Nut width: 42.4 mm. Depth at 1st fret 20mm.
