Rare 1986 Rickenbacker 4003 Shadow bass in very good + condition. It's all original and complete other than the case. There are a few small scuffs a tiny dings in the finish, mainly around the top edge of the headstock and the bottom back edge of the body. The frets are in great shape with very little wear. It's nice and light weighing 9 lbs 1 oz / 4.11 kg. It has a lovely slim neck and low action, all-round lovely bass. Nut width: 41.1 mm. Depth at 1st fret: 21.2.
Set up with a fresh set of nickel Rotosound round-wound strings. The truss rods work perfectly, and the neck is straight and true. All electronics and hardware are in good working order with no issues. The serial ZI 2483 dates the production to September 1986.
The 4003 Shadow bass was a limited series bass, reportedly ordered as a limited run by Guitar Centre in the USA. The exact number made varys depending on who you ask. The best estimate is between 50 & 60 basses were made. So this bass is an extremely rare find! The shadow bass is a 4003 model but differs in terms of its all-black hardware padouk fingerboard with black dot inlays, black neck binding and checkered inner body binding.
